Reflexology

If you’re feeling out of kilter, don’t know why or what about, let your feet reveal the answer, find the sore spot, work it out.

— Eunice Ingham

Reflexology is the application of finger and thumb pressure on specific reflexes to the hands and feet, which stimulates the body’s own healing powers in a natural and safe way. It can be traced back as far as 2330 BCE in China and Egypt, as shown in the temple of Ankmahor where figures are clearly painted in sitting position applying pressure to the feet. In the modern day, reflexology is widely used within various medical and non-medical institutions. As with massage, there are various types of reflexology which vary in style, application and underlying assumptions of the body systems and corresponding reflexes. I offer the Traditional Ingham Method, which divides the body into ten longitudinal zones working on the premise that the hands and feet provide a map of your entire body. By working these reflexes on the feet, balance can be restored to the whole body.

Benefits

Reflexology has been researched and found to be clinically effective in dealing with a number of conditions including:

  • Musckuloskeletal problems
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Pain
  • Headaches
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Dementia
  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • MS
  • Epilepsy
  • Labour
  • Cancer
  • Nausea
  • Digestive issues

Of course, you do not have to be unwell to receive reflexology. It can be a wonderful and relaxing treatment in itself and can increase your energy and vitality and overall well-being.

What to expect

A reflexology session will last between 45 min and 1 hr unless combined with other therapies. You can choose to be seated in a special lafuma chair or lay on a massage table. I use a reflexology beeswax which allows for a relatively firm pressure on the feet. Sometimes you may experience sensitive areas as the reflexes are stimulated. This is nothing to worry about and it is important to understand that reflexologists do not diagnose during sessions. The level of pressure will be tailored to your needs.

Leanne did some reflexology on me and I was so impressed. I highly recommended her work, she knew exactly what she was doing and used the perfect pressure. I was kept warm and her voice was calm and mellow. I almost drifted off to sleep.
Afterwards I felt a release of emotions that was very good for me to let go of and can’t wait to have another session of natural healing.
