Drum Journey with Reiki

Drum sound rises on the air, its throb, my heart. A voice inside the beat says I know you’re tired, but come. This is the way.

Throughout history some sounds have come to be regarded as sacred and healing, the drumbeat being one of these. Drumming for meditation and relaxation has its roots in prehistoric times. Stone age man found that the drum beat changed the way he felt and helped him gain a form of control over his environment. For thousands of years drumming has been a deep and sacred part of indigenous cultures worldwide. The Celts, British, Irish, Native Americans, Siberian Tuvans, laps, North African Arabic tribes and Mongolians have all known that drumming is a powerful spiritual tool and has been customary at weddings, births, deaths, harvests and initiation ceremonies the world over.

Drumming studies have shown to alter neuro endocrine and immunologic response in a person, facilitating a sense of peace and relaxation. Cortisol levels and blood pressure readings are positively altered, natural killer cells are more active and research indicates that drumming also aids the production of endorphins, assisting in pain control.

On a spiritual level, the vibrations of the drum beat encourage mental, emotional and spiritual energy bodies to realign and the chakras become balanced, resulting in emotional and mental harmony. Our consciousness shifts and we are able to reach our true spiritual selves (Sarah Gregg Reiki Drum & Sound Inspirations, The Phoenix Mystery School of Sound Healing, Shamanism & Energy Medicine)

Combining Reiki (see Reiki page) and drumming is a healing experience that brings about deep relaxation. Research has provided the modern mind with evidence that our bodies know instinctively what to do to heal and stay well. Drumming is something that people respond to naturally .Our brainwaves even after a short time will induce the Alpha state, a state connected to feelings of well-being and Euphoria .

What to expect.

Your Reiki and drum session will start with an intention set by you and shared with your practitioner. This can be very specific, for example, you may wish to find your voice or access a specific talent you may have lost. You may wish to heal, bring back and integrate parts of the self that have been lost due to trauma in your life, resulting in a lack of life force and compromised energy levels which can manifest in all sorts of ways (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual). You will be guided through this process and made comfortable on a massage table whilst your practitioner drums between 12-24 inches above and around your body. The drumming can last anywhere between 2-20 minutes depending on what your body is asking for. Reiki will then be given in the traditional way. The whole session will last around an hour unless you are combining with other therapies.
